• Getting the Most Out of Your Graduate School Experience

Receiving your letter of acceptance into graduate school is an exciting experience. Before you start picking your classes, however, it’s a good idea to set some expectations and goals for yourself. Doing so can help you get the most out of your time at graduate school. For example, your list of expectations may include achieving a certain grade point average (GPA) and networking with your fellow students to further your career objectives. Be sure to set realistic expectations to avoid placing excessive pressure on yourself.

Graduate school is a perfect opportunity to become more involved. In fact, many prospective students choose to apply to certain schools in part because they have a reputation for community service. Complement your studies with community service initiatives and getting involved in on-campus activities, such as career planning events. Get involved in class by actively participating in the discussion and asking questions. Being an active participant in your own education lends itself to an incredible graduate school experience.

At Seattle University’s Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, we encourage our graduate school students to become involved on campus and in our community. For more information about pursuing a graduate degree in Seattle, call (206) 452-2262.
